Leaving Laughlin

Here's to the beginning of a new day at Laughlin AFB. Please remember to pray for all the troops serving here and abroad. After spending time with Andrew in a this small remote base, it was evident that our world is a dangerous place for any military person, no matter their location. If you would like to correspond with Andrew let us know and we will forward his email/address. I can't promise he will respond-he still has some weakness in that area.
Blessings to all and Good Morning Airman Freitag!

Cindy and Andrew

Paul almost caught Andrew in a smile when we were at Schilo's. We had a wonderful time just being together again. We're so proud of the work Andrew's doing on our behalf in the Air Force. He's taken his responsibility as a police officer very seriously and it's reflected in the accomplishments he's made in less than a year. We don't know where his path may lead, but he certainly does have a bright future with many options.

San Antonio

We took a quick trip to San Antonio and went to some of our favorite places that we discovered the last time we visited. Andrew and I are standing outside of Guenther's. It's one of the best breakfast places we've ever experienced. Casa Rio is on Riverwalk and on our list of must do's. We opted out this time because of the wait at 8PM. Instead, we decided to go around the corner to Schilo's. Schilos' is a wonderful German restaurant that looks like it did when it opened its doors in 1930-something. I don't think Andrew likes San Antonio as much as we do. Can you can tell by his face?

Del Rio, TX

We found the highlights of Del Rio at the Val Verde Winery and Lake Amistad. Paul and I enjoyed discovering the winery in the old part of town. We tried to schedule a fishing trip to Lake Amistad, but were unable due to Andrew's schedule. It's a beautiful, clear lake with a reputation for growing some really big bass! I took this picture from the Air Force Marina dock looking at the bridge that spans the U.S. and Mexico border. Doesn't it look like Sturgeon Bay bridge?

Freitags walk to Mexico

Laughlin personnel were recently allowed to go to Mexico again after some security threats earlier this year. For some reason, we thought it would be a good experience and for some even stranger reason, we listened to hotel staff that said we could walk across. Bad decisions! It was extremely hot and the walk was longer than "a little way". We walked to Acuna, ate lunch at a recommended spot and got out of there. I felt like kissing the ground once we saw the U.S. boundary marker-never had that experience before.

Laughlin AFB

Andrew is standing outside the dormitory housing for single airman. His room reminded me of a typical college dorm room. He occupies two of these dorm rooms. One room serves as his bedroom and the other side is his living room with a couch, chair, armoire and and a small makeshift kitchen. Not ideal, but enough for "Monk" to manage.

Del Rio Vacation

They say "Better Late Than Never" and that's the theme of this blog. I had great intentions to keep current during our trip to see Andrew, but for many reasons, it didn't happen. Hope you enjoy the pictures and commentary as we say goodbye to Andrew one last time before he's deployed this fall.
